Garth Brooks, Trisha Yearwood Performing During 2016 Pearl Harbor Commemoration
Brooks and Yearwood will play three unplugged shows -- similar to Brooks' concerts at the Wynn in Las Vegas -- on Dec. 9 at 8PM and on Dec. 10 at 6:30PM and 10PM, at the Neal S. Blaisdell Arena. The shows will close out a week of events commemorating the 75th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor on Dec. 7, 1941.
“The 75th Commemoration embraces our respect for all men and women who have answered the call of duty for the last seven decades and especially honors those whose sacrifice protected our nation and secured victory during World War II," says Admiral Thomas Fargo, chair of the 75th Commemoration Committee, in a press release. "Garth Brooks embodies our theme of 'honoring the past and inspiring the future.' His phenomenal success as an artist and personal dedication to philanthropy are unparalleled.”
One-hundred percent of the net proceeds from Brooks' two performances will go to Pacific Historic Parks, which will disperse the money to four organizations that aim to preserve the legacy of Pearl Harbor: the WWII Valor in the Pacific National Monument (USS Arizona Memorial), the Pacific Aviation Museum Pearl Harbor, the USS Bowfin Submarine Museum & Park and the Battleship Missouri Memorial.
"It is a privilege to be a part of honoring our nation’s fighting men and women who have and continue to serve our great nation," Brooks says. "We look forward to a night packed with music laughter and respect."
Adds Ron Gibson, who is helping organize the shows on behalf of Pacific Historic Parks, "We are thrilled to welcome Garth Brooks to the islands for his first time performing in Hawaii. His performance will resonate with many here given the unique nature of the show ... This is Garth Brooks unplugged and personal. It's high-energy and captivating from the first note to the very last.”
Tickets for Brooks' two Hawaii shows are set to go on sale on Oct. 22 at 10AM HT, with a limit of eight tickets per purchase in effect. Tickets will be available through Ticketmaster.com or by phone at 1-800-745-3000 or 1-866-448-7849. All tickets will cost $69, plus a $6.25 service charge.
Brooks is currently on the road for his World Tour with Yearwood. He recently launched his own channel on SiriusXM and will release a new box set, The Ultimate Collection, as well as a holiday duets record with Yearwood, on Nov. 11. The Ultimate Collection will feature nine discs of music from Brooks’ catalog, as well as some previously unreleased songs, and the 10th disc will be an exclusive version of Brooks’ still-unnamed new album, featuring Target-only bonus tracks.
