Happy Birthday To The King

There may be a royal wedding this weekend but there is a royal birthday today. Happy Birthday to the King of Country Music, George Strait. Like a fine wine, he get's better with age.

George Harvey Strait was born May 18th, 1952, in Poteet, Texas. He and his brother were raised by their father after his parents divorced and his mother left with his sister.

1971 George married his wife Norma after they eloped to Mexico. George Strait would then enter the Army and get stationed in Hawaii. While in Hawaii, George and Norma would have their first child Jennifer.  After being honorably discharged he return to Texas to attend Texas State University, were he received a degree in agriculture.

George has received many awards through out his career including Grammy's, CMA's, ACM's and more. He also holds the record for more number one's than any other artist of all time. He has 60 number one's.

George Strait retired from touring June of 2014 to take up a residency in Las Vegas.
