As you probably can tell by now, I enjoy blogging about local things.  I really like to blog about local sports and there is a lot of action on the diamond going on right now.

SOFTBALL

We are heading into the final two games of District 3-6A play.  Midland High and Midland Lee both clinched postseason bids last week.  The Lady Bulldogs and the Lady Rebels are in a third place tie at 4-4.  Whoever loses this game tonight will likely face a hard draw in the bi-district round against the District 4-6A champion.  That will probably be Arlington Martin, who is undefeated and who have district titles from 2013 and 2014.  So the winner of this rivalry game will likely have an easier path going into the playoffs.

Meanwhile in Odessa, Permian could get an outright district championship for the first time in its program's history with a win tonight over OHS Tuesday night.  The Lady Panthers are undefeated in district and have already clinched at least a share of the district title.  The Lady Bronchos are right behind them in second place.  If Odessa High wins, they'll have a top-two position in the district alongside Permian, going into the playoffs.

BASEBALL

There is action at Security Bank Ballpark tonight, even with the Rockhounds out of town.  No. 22 Texas Tech plays Abilene Christian in a non-conference game at 6:30 Tuesday night.  That game will include Midland Christian graduates Bryant Burleson and Matt Withrow playing for the Red Raiders.  Last year's game featured a great turnout of fans and there is no reason to believe that this year's game won't meet or surpass last year's crowd totals!
