For the first time, the Texas State guard, local first responders and other non-profits will be holding a 24-hour shelter exercise here in the Permian Basin. This is going to be big as this will serve as training for other communities across Texas!

Executive Director of the Permian Basin Chapter of the Red Cross Stephanie Murphee says, "In a ‘real-world’ disaster guard units would be called on to support efforts in the affected areas. It only makes sense for these soldiers to train alongside individuals whom they may one day be working with in the case of an actual disaster."

This re-enactment will take place over June 7 and June 8 and will host over 150 volunteers. Along with training first responders, area residents will be trained on how they can prepare for a disaster like the tornado in Oklahoma or the explosion in West, Texas.

If you would like to take part in the upcoming disaster drill as an actor, call the Permian Basin Area Chapter at 432-563-2267 or e-mail them at arcexercisevolunteer@gmail.com
