Every year, the American Kennel Club ranks the most popular breeds of dogs in the U.S.

This year’s most popular breed, for the 23rd year in a row, is the Labrador retriever. It’s the longest winning streak of any breed since the organization began in 1884.

German shepherds, golden retrievers, beagles and bulldogs round out the top-five.
But the most popular dog of all? The mixed-breed…what we usually call a “mutt.” 53% of all dogs in America are mixed breed.
