Today in 1989 country music lost one of its very best voices. Keith Whitley lost his battle with alcoholism at the young age of 34.

Jackie Keith Whitley was born July 1, 1954 in Ashland, Kentucky. In 1970 Keith Whitley joined Ralph Stanley's band, where he became the lead singer. He moved to Nashville in 1983 to begin his recording career.

In 1986 he released his first single, Miami My Amy, and later married fellow country singer Lorrie Morgan. His next three singles, Don't Close Your Eyes, I'm No Stranger To The Rain, and When You Say Nothing At All, all went to number one.

Keith Whitley then passed away in May of 1989. After his passing two more songs were released, Do You Think Of Me and It Ain't Nothing.

Such a tragic loss for country music. He had the potential to be one of the biggest star in country music.
