When you are traveling to a new place, you always like to ask around where you should eat and the places you should see and things you should do. When asking about the places to eat, everyone told us the The Wilkes House!

Everyone told us to get there early because we would have to stand in line but we had no idea what we were in store for. The restaurant is only open for lunch from 11-2pm and they only except cash.

We got there about 11:15 and the line was already around the block. We waited in line an hour and 45 minutes but it was well worth it! It is a family style dinning restaurant. You are seating in tables of 10-15 people. The food is already on the table when you sit down and you pass it around family style.

You are served fried chicken, greens, mashed potatoes, mac and cheese, cornbread casserole, okra stew, cucumbers, and so much more. It reminded me of Sunday lunch at my Grandma's when I was a kid. That's how we did it every Sunday.

The meal was $22 and worth every bit of it. And in true Southern and Wilkes family tradition you put up your plate when your done. They ask that you clean up after your self.

If you ever get the chance make sure you eat at The Wilkes House and make sure you get in line early!
