Saturday when I was at the 13th Annual Healthy U health fair, I met Adam Lucio with West Texas Warriors Basketball.

They're a locally-based wheelchair basketball team and the only team of its kind within a 280 mile radius.  As the population of the Permian Basin grows, so does our need for an adaptive recreational outlet in our community.  These guys are great!  They play some high octane, intense, competitive games.  Not only do they learn the fundamentals of basketball and teamwork but they also experience increased independence, self-esteem and confidence in everyday life.

Adam says they hope to someday offer wheelchair softball, tennis, rugby sled hockey and bowling.  In addition, they want to have power chair tennis and soccer. You can see these guys practice and I promise you'll be pumped up!  They practice at Odessa College Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm-6:00pm. I asked Adam and he wants to get the word out.  If you want more information, go to their Facebook page and check out the video we took at Centennial Plaza!
