No more texting, facebooking, tweeting and emailing while you drive in Midland! The Midland City Council voted unanimously to ban texting while driving. Breaking this law could cost you $500.

From our news partner NewWest9:

In a unanimous decision, the ban will go into effect on October 1.

According to the ban, “a driver shall not use a wireless communication device to view, send, or compose an electronic message, or engage other application software apps while operating a motor vehicle on a public roadway.”

However, there are exemptions to this ban. Those exemptions include making a phone call or using a GPS device.

If you’re caught texting and driving, you could be fined $500.
