The Pistol Annies were back onstage together on Thursday evening (July 19) during trio member and country superstar Miranda Lambert's 2018 Bandwagon Tour stop at Northwell Health at Jones Beach Theater in Wantagh, N.Y. Consisting of Lambert along with Angaleena Presley and Ashley Monroe, the group put out two albums in 2011 and 2013 before taking a break to focus on solo projects. After they abruptly canceled all scheduled performances in support of their sophomore album, Annie Up, in June of 2013, rumors of a breakup and tensions within the band began to circulate. However, all three artists insisted that the break was due to their busy solo careers. Presley, Monroe and Lambert have all released albums as solo artists since the last time they released music together as the Annies.

Still, the group's members have always said that more is in store for the Pistol Annies, and in January of 2018, Lambert shared an Instagram post hinting that she was writing new music for the trio. Small pieces of news suggesting a new album was on its way continued to emerge as 2018 progressed, and in April, Monroe told The Boot that the group had plans to head back into the studio soon. "We've been writing, and we've written some of my favorite songs I've ever written in my life," the singer explained.

Lambert also said that the group was writing together, and hoping for a new release in 2018, although she added that the process would likely take time. Then, fans anticipating a new album from the Pistol Annies got a reason to celebrate in July of 2018: The trio posted a studio selfie on Instagram, suggesting that new music may be on its way sooner rather than later.
