“Selena” The Movie Celebrates It’s 20th Anniversary

This week marks the 20th Anniversary of the release of the movie "Selena."It was released today, back in 1997.  "Selena" is the biopic of the life and career of  Tejano superstar Selena Quintanilla Perez. It is also the movie that helped put Jennifer Lopez on the map.

Here are a few facts you may not know about the movie.

1. Jennifer Lopez beat out 22,000 actresses for the part including Selma Hayek, and Mexican Soap star Bibi Gayten.

2. According to Box Office Mojo it's the 9th top selling biopic.

3. In it's first week of release it grossed over $11 million and lifetime gross of over $35 million.

4. The film cost about $20 mill to make.

5. Locations the movie was filmed were, Corpus Christi, Houston, San Antonio, Poteet, Lake Jackson, and Monterey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.

6. It was nominated for 1 Golden Globe.

7. Playing the role of Selena helped Jennifer Lopez in pursuing a music career.
