A Look at Taste of Country Music Festival 2016: Day 3 [Pictures]
The weather on Day 3 (June 12) at the 2016 Taste of Country Music Festival was chilly, but the country stars on the bill for the festival's final day heated things up onstage.
Outshyne got things started in the early afternoon, giving fans a country-rock set on the Ram Guts & Glory Stage in the early afternoon. Both the fans and the performers for the festival's third and final day had to overcome the unseasonably low temperatures, biting wind and light rain that swept into Hunter Mountain on Sunday, as veteran country star Neal McCoy remarked on when he took the stage a bit later in the afternoon.
"This is the first summer festival I've ever played in the winter," he joked from the stage, but he warmed the fans up with a fun, high-energy set highlighted by a bizarrely awesome heavy metal cover of Sam Hunt's "House Party."
Chris Janson was next up, and he kept the energy high with a set that included "Truck Yeah," which he co-wrote, his breakout hit "Buy Me a Boat," a powerful rendition of "Holdin' Her" and several classic rock covers. Janson threw his entire body into a very physical performance, showing fans how “135 pounds of skinny white boy [can] play this harmonica like you never seen” in one standout moment.
After a set from Jake Worthington on the Bud Light Stage the action returned to the main stage for an edgy, cool set from Gary Allan, who shared a new single, "Do You Wish It Was Me?" with the crowd. Allan and his band overcame the chill by passing around a bottle of Jack Daniel's onstage as they played, with the singer telling fans, "Everyone think warm thoughts."
Adley Stump took the Bud Light Stage for a set of her songs before Sunday night headliner Jake Owen brought the 2016 ToC Fest to a close with a mix of hits and new songs. Owen also took a moment to address two tragic events that occurred in his home state of Florida over the weekend: the fatal shooting of former The Voice contestant Christina Grimmie on Friday (June 10) and the horrifying nightclub shooting in Orlando early Sunday morning (June 12).
"[There's] some crazy stuff happening down there," Owen told the crowd. "We live in the land of the free, and it's because of a lot of good men and women. So tonight, let's feel as good as we can feel ..."
