Life doesn't always turn out the way we think it should. Little girls meet their very first hero the day they are born. Daddy is always supposed to be there, always supposed to protect, and provide, but sometimes life throws a curve we don't expect.

Sixteen years ago today, I got a phone call that would change my life forever. On the morning of January 14, 1998, my phone rang with my step mother very emotional on the other line. I soon learned that my father had been killed in a car accident.

My father had worked late the night before, he had gone home to sleep a while and go back to work. He was on his way back to the rig that was more than hour away. While on the way back to work he fell asleep while driving, he woke up over corrected and rolled his truck two and half times. He was killed on impact.

I was only sixteen when he died but it so funny how much like him I am. I am loving, affectionate, kind, hardworking, stubborn and agrumenative. I have to always be right just like him.  I would love to thank him for my beautiful blue eyes.

To me it is so weird to think that it has been sixteen years ago that he passes and I was sixteen years old at the time.

In the words of a Kenny Chesney song, "Sometimes I wonder who you'd be today?"

Gary Alan McCown left this world on January 14, 1998 and will forever be missed.
