As you know, we are very proud of the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect all of us.

That's why we're hoping to get enough votes for Mike Ball of Midland to win a hunting trip from Lonestar Outdoors TV. His wife wrote a touching story about him which we've posted below.

Born in Midland, Texas, Michael Ball is a third generation Marine whose patriotism resonates throughout his daily life. After joining the Marine Corp, he was assigned to 1st Marine Division, 1st LAR, Charlie Company as a rifleman. Due to a shortage of men in the beginning of the Iraq War, he was quickly sent through sniper school. Shortly afterwards, he was placed on the frontlines as a scout sniper in a light armored vehicle. He then found himself making the first push of the war across the Iraqi border. On September 5, 2004, in the town of “An Najaf”, while on top of a building in a firefight with insurgents, Michael along with ¾ of his team were wounded. Setting aside his own wounds, Michael administered aid to a fellow Marine whose femoral artery had been hit. This battle in “An Najaf” led to Michael receiving both a Purple Heart and a Navy Commendation Medal with a “V”.

After leaving the Marine Corp in 2006, Michael returned to Midland, Texas where we married the following year. As with most veterans who return from the war zone, he struggles with the loss and sacrifice of so many friends. The war has impacted his life dearly. Michael’s faith, strength, dedication and God’s fierce grace has helped him become a wonderful, supportive and loving husband. He leaves his home every day to serve and sacrifice for his community as a police officer. Michael loves to hunt and fish; however, he rarely receives an opportunity to do so. Unlike most Texas men, he has yet to go hunting for his first deer.

Michael is the first to offer his home for friends and family. He loves inviting people over for a BBQ and frequently entertains overnight guests. His home is a vacation spot for many of his friends and fellow servicemen. His home is the “home away from home” for many of his friends. He is the first to help someone else in need and the last to ask for anything. He is a very humble man who lives his life serving others. Michael is a hero not only to the United States of America, but also to the community in which he lives and serves. Michael is my husband, the love of my life, my hero and he would love the opportunity to go on this hunt

So, what do you have to do? It's as simple as two mouse clicks. First, click the button below and then like that status update! Done, and you could help honor this local veteran! The catch is, voting ends at midnight tonight so don't wait!

On a personal note, for everything that our military men and women like Mike have done and given for our country, two mouse clicks is the least we could do. I invite you to share this with your friends and family and rally behind him to give him a day to relax. We all know there's little of that happening for the men and women serving overseas right now.
